Petrol forming part of Chain of Good People through Energy for Life campaign

Kindness is an important value at Petrol. By connecting into the Chain of Good People, in addition to its general aid to the Ljubljana Moste–Polje chapter of the Slovenian Friends of Youth Association in the amount of EUR 20,000, Petrol thus donated another EUR 1,000 to the Chain of Good People project via its employees participating in the pan-Slovenian humanitarian campaign “Our Energy Connects”. With these funds, Petrol employees wanted to provide additional aid to one of the Slovenian families assisted through the Chain of Good People project at the end of 2018 so they could purchase heating oil.

Even though the number of people living below the poverty line and those that experience social exclusion has declined in Slovenia over the past years due to economic growth, many people continue to live in deprivation. To keep such stories to a minimum, in December – a month characterised by giving and receiving presents, attention and warmth – Petrol decided to lend a hand to the Ljubljana Moste–Polje chapter of the Slovenian Friends of Youth Association and link into the Chain of Good People.

Petrol employees donated EUR 1,000 to the Chain of Good People project as part of the campaign Our Energy Connects, in which Petrol donates funds originally earmarked for business gifts to individuals, societies and projects in local communities across Slovenia. At the end of 2018, Petrol thus donated over EUR 60,000 to charity as part of its Our Energy Connects campaign. “Petrol is aware that energy that brings positive feelings to all of us is important in the life of every individual. What’s important is the energy that connects us. Petrol employees have been transferring it into their local environments across all of Slovenia for the eighth year in a row,” commented Petrol CEO Tomaž Berločnik, describing the campaign. Alongside its general aid provided to the Chain of Good People project, Petrol and its employees thus donated EUR 21,000 to the Ljubljana Moste–Polje chapter of the Slovenian Friends of Youth Association.

However, this is not the only act of kindness that Petrol wanted to extend to the Slovenian Friends of Youth Association. Cooperation already began in September, when as part of the Giving Back to Society project Petrol reached out to the Ljubljana Moste–Polje chapter of the Slovenian Friends of Youth Association during its corporate volunteer week and helped prepare, distribute and arrange aid packages at the warehouse and provide learning assistance to children. Because the Giving Back to Society campaign coincided with the beginning of school year, the company also collected school supplies for them in cooperation with the Petrol Olimpija basketball players.

Experiencing the world of the Ljubljana Moste–Polje chapter of the Slovenian Friends of Youth Association and the stories of these families thus touched Petrol employees even more and opened their eyes and hearts to taking further steps. At the end of 2018, the group of employees in charge of the Giving Back to Society project came up with the idea of giving presents to children from families assisted by societies in the Slovenian Friends of Youth Association across Slovenia. They created the campaign Become Petrol’s Santa Claus, in which they prepared 260 presents for 260 children. Petrol’s employees across Slovenia joined the campaign, with collection points for the Christmas presents set up at ten locations. The presents collected were then handed over to the local societies operating as part of the Slovenian Friends of Youth Association. This allowed many families to enter the new year with a little bit more hope for a better and nicer future. With this act of kindness, Petrol and its employees became an even stronger link in the Chain of Good People, where they will continue to donate funds in the future to put a smile on people’s faces and give back to society by providing energy for life.
