Petrol supports sustainable mobility in Maribor with the new 29th MBajk station in Lent

Today, the new PETROL – LENT – VODNI STOLP station was added to the MBajk bike sharing system. This was made possible by Petrol.

The new station is located along Usnjarska ulica on the renovated Drava River embankment. In total, 29 stations offering 290 bikes are available to users. The bike sharing project in Maribor is supported by the NLB Group as the umbrella partner for sustainable mobility in the city. In addition to Petrol, the installation of the additional bike stations was made possible by Spar Slovenija, Vzajemna, Lidl, Nova KBM, Post of Slovenia, Telemach, Europark, University of Maribor, H – Bit, and Javni holding Maribor.

MBajk bikes continue to be a popular mode of transport in the city. The system already has more than 27,000 registered users, who have made almost one million rentals since its launch. The highest number of rentals in one day was recorded on 17 October 2023, when 3,956 rentals took place. The average rental time is 12 minutes.

Saša Arsenovič, Mayor of the Urban Municipality of Maribor, said at the opening of the new Lent station: "We promote sustainable mobility because we want our city to be green and as friendly as possible to the people who live in it. And because it also makes our streets more attractive. The network of stops is expanding from the centre outwards, and we want to be able to cover the whole city."

The MBajk network is designed so that stations are no more than 400 metres apart. Aleš Gaber, Project Manager at Europlakat's Maribor office, said, "We continue to record a high number of rentals, with almost one million so far. Last year alone, more than half a million journeys were made and we have more than 27,000 users in total. In the winter months, there are fewer rentals, so we have used this time to give our bikes a general service. The bikes are now ready for the new season and you are welcome to use them."

Marko Ninčević, Member of the Management Board of Petrol, said: "The mobility of people is at the very core of Petrol's business, as we have always been connected to the movement of people. Today's opening of the new MBajk station is a great example of how we can work together to create a more sustainable future. We are proud to be part of this project, which combines several aspects into one. Cycling is not only a form of mobility, it also makes an important contribution to preserving the environment by avoiding greenhouse gas emissions. It is also a form of recreation that contributes to a better well-being and health and, consequently, to a better quality of life."
