Petrol and Axpo Sign Agreement on Long-Term Power Supply for Business Customers in Slovenia
The Petrol Group has signed a 5-year Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA) with the largest Swiss power producer Axpo. The five-year PPA, Petrol’s first in Slovenia, will ensure Petrol with providing a reliable power supply to business customers between 2026 and 2030. The purchased power will support Petrol’s core activities and will be used to provide long-term supply to business customers.
Based on this agreement, the Petrol Group will be able to ensure a fixed average price of electricity for the entire period of the agreement, which means more predictable costs for its business customers. A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is an agreement between a renewable electricity producer or investor and an end electricity user at an agreed price for an extended period. In the majority of cases, such agreements involve a connecting link, a power supplier. The agreement with Axpo includes the option to purchase Guarantees of Origin (GoOs) for solar, wind or hydro power from any member state of the Association of Issuing Bodies (AiB).
Marko Bregar, Executive Director for Electricity Supply and Trading at Petrol, said: "The Petrol Group delivers some 3 TWh of electricity to end customers annually, of which around 2.1 TWh to business customers. At Petrol, we are constantly striving to enhance our services to meet the evolving needs of our customers in Slovenia and other markets where we are present. As the largest electricity supplier to the business sector in Slovenia, we understand that long-term contracts, such as PPAs, provide stable and predictable energy costs to our customers. This turned to be a key factor in the time of the energy crisis and the skyrocketing prices of electricity on the market. By purchasing Guarantees of Origin (GoOs) for the entire period of supply, business customers can, in addition to securing themselves a long-term electricity price, significantly reduce their carbon footprint, aligning with their ESG objectives."
Philip Schmid-Lossberg, Senior Originator for South-Eastern Europe at Axpo, added: "We are proud to cooperate with Petrol, one of the leading energy companies in Slovenia. The long-term agreement will provide Petrol with a stable power supply and protection against price fluctuations on the power market. Axpo has extensive experience in the field of PPAs and risk management, enabling us to offer best solutions to our partners. We are aware of the importance of reliability and predictability in today’s demanding times."
With this agreement, the Petrol Group has consolidated its role as a reliable electricity supplier in the region and continues to set high standards in the field of the energy supply.
