Wastewater treatment

We ensure the treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater, and allow its release back into the natural environment. In the process, we lower the load of pollutants in the water, and reduce their impact on the environment.

Ensuring the economic use of wastewater

At Petrol, we are ensuring the economic use of municipal and industrial wastewater, and we provide our partners with comprehensive water treatment solutions. Our focus is on modernizing and optimizing the operation of water treatment plants, and simultaneously optimizing investments and operational costs.

We provide towns within entire concession areas with a legally compliant operation of water treatment plants, while reducing the administrative burden faced by our partners. We are ensuring the optimization of the entire investment, and achieving positive environmental effects. We also take care of the treatment of industrial wastewater, and enable its reuse in recirculation systems. We are committed to efficient and environmentally friendly water use. We also manage our own wastewater treatment. Petrol's service stations that are located outside of settlements, where the construction of sewage systems is not planned, are equipped with small wastewater treatment plants.

Our solutions for the treatment of wastewater:

The treatment of municipal wastewater

We provide towns and regions with optimal investment terms for the duration of a water treatment plant's lifetime based on a public-private partnership model. We ensure that the operation of the water treatment plants is in accordance with the law, and reaches legally defined emission levels, which also results in a positive impact on the environment.

We reduce the administrative burden faced by local communities, because we take care of all the necessary reporting. We also take care of the invoicing for end users, as well as the costs related to debt and write-offs.

The treatment of industrial wastewater

We enable the optimal operation of industrial wastewater treatment plants, while ensuring the legally required emission quality levels. When emissions from a treatment plant exceed the permitted parameters, the operations of the plant need to be optimized with an upgrade, or a selection of optimal technological processes. At Petrol, we take care of this process. We carry out special investments, from the contractual planning of solutions, construction and management, to the construction of new buildings and the rehabilitation of existing ones.

The economic use of industrial wastewater

We take care of the reuse of industrial water in recirculation systems, ensuring rational and environmentally friendly water use. Cooled industrial water in the system is harmless to the environment, and can be released back into the natural environment. In addition to its positive effects on the environment, the reuse of water also has competitive advantages. Furthermore, we ensure a reliable and safe supply of drinking and process water in managed industrial areas.

Small water treatment plants

Petrol's service stations that are located outside of settlements, where the construction of sewage systems is not planned, are equipped with small wastewater treatment plants. In 2020, we used 43 small water treatment plants at our sales outlets to treat as much as 75,000 m3 of wastewater. We ensure regular maintenance of the treatment plants using our own employees and external contract workers. We use the latest technology to maintain and upgrade the plants.

Business models

We provide comprehensive water treatment solutions based on various business models, which we can adapt to the needs of our partners. Working with local communities, cities, and municipalities, we can carry out projects through public-private partnerships on the concession model. On the other hand, industrial users mostly opt for water treatment solutions on the model of long-term contracts, which are adapted to their needs.

Working together to ensure the economic use of wastewater

The Murska Sobota water treatment plant

In 2002, we constructed a water treatment plant in Murska Sobota on the basis of a concession contract. The plant covers 42,000 population units, and features mechanical treatment, biological treatment of carbon and nitrogen compounds, chemical precipitation of phosphorus compounds, and treatment using sand filters and disinfection with UV light, that exceeds requirements. In addition to municipal wastewater, the plant also treats wastewater generated by local industry.

The industrial water treatment plant at the Vevče Paper Mill

The production of paper generates wastewater that must be treated before it is released into the environment. We helped the Vevče Paper Mill with the external management and maintenance of a biological water treatment plant. This enabled the company to simplify the treatment processes, improve their efficiency, and attain lower operational costs. It also ensured savings from the reduced use of chemicals in the cleaning process.

The operation of small water treatment plants at service stations

Current legislation requires the treatment of municipal wastewater at service stations. This is also considered "household water", because it originates in restrooms, kitchens, and so on. Because sales outlets are frequently located in remote areas outside of settlements, where municipalities do not plan to build sewage systems, we address such cases with the construction of small wastewater treatment plants.
