Petrol is continuing the green Ljubljana success story with the signing of the third phase of the Energy retrofit programme of public buildings in Ljubljana (EOL-3)

At Petrol, we are aware of the global challenge of climate change, which is why we place particular importance on energy efficiency projects even in the most demanding of times. After the successful completion of the first two phases of the Energy retrofit programme of public buildings in Ljubljana (EOL-1 and EOL-2), on Friday, 24 July 2020, we signed an agreement on the continuation of the energy renovation project (EOL-3).

Reduction of environmental impacts, reduction of energy supply costs, reduction of energy use, unchanged comfort in the premises and savings. All of these are the benefits that the energy renovation of buildings brings about. At the same time, these are important factors influencing more efficient energy usage and, consequently, a more sustainable economy. In 2017 and 2018, Petrol and its consortium partners improved the energy efficiency of 48 buildings in Ljubljana and an additional 11 buildings later on. This is the most extensive public-private partnership in Slovenia from the point of view of energy contracting, within which Petrol has taken over all technical and economic risks of project implementation and management.

The EOL-3 project is a continuation of the success story of the City Municipality of Ljubljana and the consortium, which is building its future in harmony with nature. As part of the project, in addition to the already renovated 59 buildings in Ljubljana, we will energetically renovate an additional 27 buildings. As many as 17 of these will receive comprehensive energy rehabilitation, which includes the renovation of the entire building envelope and mechanical and electrical systems in the building and implementation of other energy efficiency improvement measures. Out of a total of 27 facilities, 10 will undergo partial energy renovation. In addition to the renovation of boiler rooms and the installation of highly efficient air conditioning systems, heat pumps and roof insulation, the project will also include the renovation of 21,500 m2 of building envelopes and installation of over 9,700 new energy-saving LED lights.

The City Municipality of Ljubljana will thus save as much as 744,832 euro per year, or as much heat and electricity as a total of approximately 274 households consume in one year.

The continuation of the project of energy renovation of public buildings in the City of Ljubljana is not the only project of this type involving Petrol in 2020. In May, we started two new energy renovation projects for buildings in Kranj and in Brežice. These are two public-private partnerships that will reduce CO2 emissions by a little over 885 tonnes per year, which is equivalent to the amount that 45,000 trees would absorb each year. In June, we successfully completed the renovation of public lighting in the municipality of Vrbas in Serbia. Over 2,500 energy-inefficient lamps have been replaced with new LED lamps in the project, helping to save more than 75% of electricity and reduce light pollution.

As part of the Ljubljana energy renovation project, we also renovated Kopališče Tivoli.

We live on a planet with limited resources, so we need to manage them wisely and efficiently, and Petrol will continue to develop energy-efficient solutions for smart cities and communities. We see the potential for green recovery in a combination of integrated energy management services, digitisation of infrastructure systems and efficient, sustainable use of energy and water.
