Measures to compensate for damage caused by regulated energy prices in the period from 21 June 2022 to 17 June 2024
On 3 June 2025, Petrol d.d., Ljubljana submitted a request to the State Attorney’s Office of the Republic of Slovenia for amicable dispute resolution in the amount of EUR 68.6 million as compensation for the damage resulting from the limited energy prices in the period from 21 June 2022 to 17 June 2024. The amount claimed is based on damage estimation prepared by the internationally recognised analytical company Frontier Economics. At the same time, proposals for petroleum product price deregulation were again submitted to the Government of the Republic of Slovenia.
Furthermore, Petrol d.d., Ljubljana has taken note of the updated study prepared by the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana which has established that the limitation of petroleum product prices does not deliver any social benefits; moreover, it reduces competitiveness, does not promote investments in renewable sources and is not an efficient tool to combat inflation.
The study has also confirmed the reservations expressed by Petrol, d.d., Ljubljana on several occasions that the retail prices of fuels in Slovenia are among the highest in the region, most of all because of the disproportionate tax and excise duty burdens which today account for roughly 57% of the final fuel price, while sellers’ margins are among the lowest in Europe and the currently effective calculation methodology does not take into account all costs incurred by the company in complying with the Decree on renewable energy sources in transport.
In light of the complex and volatile business environment, the Management Board of Petrol d.d., Ljubljana will continue duly protecting the interests of the company, staying firmly committed to its employees, buyers, suppliers and shareholders and endeavouring to ensure cost-effective and stable long-term supply to customers.
