Petrol solar power plants Green I

With the help of European funds, we will build solar power plants at 46 Petrol sales points across Slovenia, which will help power our service stations and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Basic project information

Project duration: 25 February 2022 to 31 October 2023
Project value: EUR 2,224,240.85
Amount of co-financing: EUR 444,848.17. The funding is supported by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund.

The operation will take place within the framework of the Operational Programme for the Implementation of the EU Cohesion Policy in the 2014–2020 period. It is part of the priority axis Sustainable consumption and production of energy and smart grids, as well as the priority investments Promotion of the production and distribution of energy originating from renewable sources, with the specific goal of increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the final consumption of energy.

Project description

Points of sale powered by solar energy

At Petrol, we follow our users on their journeys at more than 300 sales points throughout Slovenia. As part of the Petrol Green I operation, we will install devices for the production of electricity using solar energy at 46 of these sales points. In this way, we will ensure that the energy that helps power our point of sale will be obtained from environmentally friendly and sustainable sources.

The sales points upgraded as part of Petrol Green I will thus join our Koper Šmarska point of sale, which is already powered by 126 solar modules with a power of 210 W.

Project results

2,403 MW of green electricity and 1,161 tonnes less emissions

As part of the Petrol Green I operation, we have committed to produce a total of 2,403 MW of sustainable electricity per year at all of the 46 planned locations with Petrol solar power plants.

When the construction of all the solar power plants is completed, we will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,161 tonnes of CO2 per year due to environmentally friendly electricity production.

An important step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals

With its strategy until 2025, the Petrol Group is committed to a decisive energy transition in order to co-create a green future. Renewable electricity production, of which we will position ourselves to become a major supplier in SE Europe, plays a particular role in the energy transition.

The Petrol Green I operation will significantly contribute to Petrol’s strategic sustainability goals, high national energy and climate targets, and the European climate neutrality target (including the EU’s interim target to reduce emissions by at least 55 % by 2030).
