Petrol to Completely Renovate Points of Sale along Ljubljana’s Southern Ring Road

On Monday, 17 July 2023, Petrol will launch construction of two new points of sale on the southern Ljubljana ring road – AC Barje South and North. The start of the works marks a major milestone for Petrol in the development of a new generation of points of sale. Alongside a wide range of products and services, as well as conventional and alternative fuels, the points of sale will also offer a variety of food and beverage options.

On Monday, 17 July 2023, the complete reconstruction of the points of sale on both sides of the southern Ljubljana ring road, PM Barje – North and PM Barje – South, will be launched. The project for the construction of the two points of sale is slated for completion at the end of this year. The works will be carried out at the same time at both sites, and during construction both points of sale will be closed for the purchase of fuel and other products and services, while the rest area will remain open. The employees will be reassigned to other points of sale.

During the renovation, customers are invited to visit the nearby points of sale at the exits from the Ljubljana ring road and other Petrol points of sale on the motorway network. You can find the locations of all points of sale, including those off the motorway, at the following link: Points of Sale | Petrol

“The two points of sale are located on one of the busiest roads in Slovenia. Considering the age of the facilities – both were built in 1990 – the Petrol Group decided to build two brand-new points of sale on the site of the existing facilities, which will meet modern requirements and ensure the possibility of developing new offerings and adapting to trends. With the new buildings, we want to provide the right environment for a great user experience. This is in line with the Petrol Group’s mission to be the first choice for shopping on the go. The points of sale will positively stand out in this part of Europe in terms of their size, quality, distinctiveness and diversity of offer and will set new, higher standards for points of sale”, said Jože Smolič, Member of Petrol’s Management Board in charge of sales, at the launch of the project.

The Petrol Group has committed itself to an important strategic objective in its 2025 strategy – to become the first choice for consumers to stop on the go – and Petrol’s vision is to become an integrated partner in the energy transition to a “WOW” user experience. To achieve this objective, its strategic initiatives include the development of a point of sale of the future, which will provide an excellent user experience through its design, offering and flexibility.

Barje Point of Sale – the Point of Sale of the Future

The new Barje South and North points of sale will offer a wide range of products and services, and will be unique in that visitors will be able to choose from three different food providers – Fresh, Marché and McDonald’s – in an outlet larger than 1000 m2. The latter will also offer visitors the possibility to conveniently purchase food via a drive-through.  The sales area will also include four coffee corners featuring display cases with bakery products.

The two points of sale will include 18 car and 6 lorry filling points under a canopy of more than 1200 m2. The sites will offer conventional fuels as well as LPG, CNG and AdBlue, with the possibility of installing an LPG and hydrogen filling station at a later stage. The points of sale will have 30 parking spaces for lorries and 90 parking spaces will be managed by DARS.

There will be a special space for electric vehicles, with four charging points with ultra-fast charging and the possibility of later expanding the charging stations to the rest area, as well as space for battery storage. The energy for charging the electric vehicles and for the self-supply of the points of sale will come from solar panels that will be installed on the roof of both facilities as part of the Petrol Green project.

Fresh, Marché and McDonald’s – Brought Together for a Varied Gastronomic Offer

As part of its strategic orientation on developing a modern point of sale, the Petrol Group has also focused on gastronomy. Customers will also be able to choose between the range of Marché and McDonald’s at the new Barje South and North points of sale. “This type of concept – several food providers in one place – is already an established practice abroad, and the two outlets in Barje will be the first two examples in Slovenia. The already very popular locations will feature a wide range of gastronomic offerings and the ambience and comfort of a food court, as commonly found in shopping centres. In the future, we would like to continue working with different partners at our points of sale to create a ‘WOW’ user experience for those stopping by”, announced Bojan Kurež, Director of POS Development at Petrol.

“We are pleased to continue our cooperation with Petrol with the launch of the construction of new points of sale at the Barje North and South rest areas. We are confident that we will be more than successful together again as we offer the new point of sale concept. Our guests will be especially pleased with the variety and high quality of the gastronomic offer available in one place, from our classics, our varied breakfast offer, great coffee and pastries from McCafé to our delicious ice cream. The location will allow easy access for guests and thus a great overall experience”, said Maxime Moulin, Managing Director of Alpe-Panon d.o.o.

Aleksander Sinkovič Jurca, Director of Marche d.o.o., said: “The catering company Marche d.o.o. has been on the Slovenian market since 2015 and operates six restaurants and 11 bistros along the Slovenian motorway network, most of them next to Petrol points of sale. With its roots in Switzerland, the company is known for the freshness and quality of its offer. The Marché concept of preparing food in front of guests ensures transparency of the offer and meets guests' high demands for healthy food. With its varied and fresh selection, Marché offers a unique atmosphere and a marketplace-like shopping experience. The menu is varied and offers a wide range of options, from homemade desserts and lemonade, excellent coffee, freshly prepared sandwiches, a varied, seasonal and always fresh salad, and a wide selection of hot dishes. We will be bringing the same offer to the new points of sale in Barje, so please be welcomed to the world of Marché freshness at the end of this year”.
