Petrol gifts new rifles to young biathletes
A press conference has been held at the headquarters of Petrol, general sponsor of the Slovenian biathlon team, prior to the final part of the preparations for the new World Cup season. All members of the senior men’s and women’s teams were presented at the conference, which also saw the unveiling of the Biathlon Tour Mobil official vehicle. The company also presented young biathletes with new competition rifles.
The Slovenian biathlon teams were attending the conference only a day before leaving for Norway, where they will complete their preparations leading up to the first World Cup event at the end of November in Östersund, Sweden.

The biathletes have two major objectives before them: the World Cup, which includes the home event in Pokljuka in January, and the World Championships, which will be held in Norway in February. Jakov Fak, Klemen Bauer, Miha Dovžan, Rok Tršan and youngster Alex Cisar will take part in the first men’s competition, while the Slovenian women’s team will comprise Polona Klemenčič, Nina Zadravec, Lea Einfalt and Nika Vindišar.

Before presenting both teams, representatives of the Biathlon Federation unveiled their latest acquisition, the Biathlon Tour Mobil, which is a mobile platform in the form of a motorhome that will visit all stops on this year’s World Cup circuit, as well as the World Championships, with a simple objective: to convince as many lovers of biathlon as possible to visit the 2021 World Championships in Pokljuka.

This was followed by the handover of four new rifles donated by Petrol in the hope of furthering the development of younger biathlon generations in Slovenia. “Petrol has sponsored the biathlon team for several years. Of course, Petrol don’t involve themselves in sports that involve shooting or killing, but luckily there’s none of that in the biathlon. We decided therefore to help the sport in Slovenia by purchasing four rifles, and we are confident that they will help the team to success in the future. I should add that, as a company, we have been connected to biathlon for a long time and will likely remain so, since we are very proud of our involvement and delighted with our cooperation in this area of sponsorship. A very exciting period awaits, with the home World Cup event in Pokljuka and the World Championships, which give us quite a few important business opportunities. We congratulate all young athletes who are or who will be involved in this sport and in continuing our excellent collaboration. We are also the proud personal sponsors of Jakov Fak and Alex Cisar, and we are open to the possibility of offering such sponsorship to other athletes in the future. I hope that these new rifles will help to develop new top competitors and that the young men and women will use this essential piece of biathlon equipment well,” said Aleksander Salkič, Petrol’s director of corporate communications.
